Physical examination helps in diagnosing cancer. The lymph nodes, breasts, skin, lungs, abdomen and testes are checked for the symptoms of cancer.

Physical examination forms the first step of the diagnosis of cancer which is then followed by histopathologic examination and biopsy. Here the body is observed by the doctor to locate signs of cancer like palpation, ausculation and percussion. During a physical examination of cancer the area of focus revolves around organs like lymph nodes, breasts, skin, lungs, testes and abdomen. Examination of prostate, rectum and vagina also forms an important part of it.
